A Research on elements of public space in London-scape.
This regeneration study is divided into four sites: the Southbank, the Bankside, Docklands, Millennium Quarter. It is a basic research about relationship between public space and London-scape which have been characterised through major regeneration schemes.This research involves information of physical geography, a special analysis of territoriality and identity.
1. Urban-being_Urbanite
What you see. What you are seen. Physical being.
At first, according to a basic map of four areas, city space is investigated. The space of city can be analyzed as several factors: Path, Edge, Node, District, Landmark (Lynch,1960)City-space is separated into 5 factors which are basic elements in city-scape but there are manyother variables. Through investigation of this analysis, basic information and concept are obtained.
2. Public space
Space in which people act, eat, rest.
One of the important aspects of regeneration is that public space is changed and re-organised.Nowadays public space has special meaning which is related to city image, orientation and identity.
Usually, public space consist of many elements: plants, sign system, facilities and even movementof people and car. Especially, in this research, public spaces in four areas are analyzed into two sections:primary elements(direct one), secondary elements(indirect one)
3. Data-scape
Visualization which is form of information design.
In this research, all of the main information including data, space, synopsis and factors etc.will be represented as visual factors; diagram, image map, cartogram.Data-scape, which means visualized-information, promotes analysis of areas, finding matters,understanding easily and making a logical concept.
